CodeProject's .NET Reactions

CodeProjectThe latest CodeProject newsletter had some funny reactions when they solicited input on .NET from their savvy user base.

"It's nice to finally have an object oriented framework that can be used in all languages for both web and client side development. So what if Microsoft is playing catchup to the Java crowd - at least I can now concentrate on programming logic instead of writing endless boilerplate code."

"The most important issue to me is the missing methods here and there in the classes...I look forward to the coming enhancements from MS, but I generally have a lack of confidence in them when it comes to adding all of those little things that we all run into every day"

"All hail .NET. It has just as steep a learning curve as C++ and with none of that annoying speed, stability and small exe size...The new technology is amazing too. So many new, impressive sounding buzzwords to describe technologies that have been around for years and already have two or three names!".

For those of you unfamiliar with CodeProject, it's a Microsoft-centric development site that has some wonderful, free source code samples. My favorites are Sam Blackburn's WFC -- or as I like to call it, "the non-GUI Win32 Class Library that Microsoft Forgot" -- and CDynamic, a set of child window dynamic positioning classes. Those are useful for a Win32 client app that needs to have resizable property sheets, dialogs, etc.

Orkut/Irate

Got an email from "T" with subject heading "DAMN ORKUT TO HELL".

That 20 minute session timeout has got to go! I just spent about 22 minutes composing a 4 page rant for the hacker community, and the entire damn text was lost upon submit due to an expired session. Oh well, back to watching TV, I guess...

Orkut is Google's social networking service -- a Friendster equivalent, one might say. And I agree completely... the suckiest thing about it is the ridiculous 20 minute timeout.
